About all the thank-you notes I've been getting for favoriting someone's work, or subscribing, please don't be disappointed if I don't respond (the number is overwhelming- almost 200 total). I appreciate the thanks, but there's only so many times someone can write 'you're welcome' without being redundant (or without feeling like a Holden Caulfield-class phony).

New Obsessions

6 min read
Have you ever seen something or learned something new, but had no one (no fandom/ the fandom is not big enough, no one in your family/ friend group shares this interest, etc) to share it with? This has been happening to me (too) often lately. Here's what I am (currently) obsessed with/ into right now (from least obsessed to most):
-Friends (the TV show). Netflix finally got it on streaming, and now I can catch up in pop culture. I think the break-up scene between Ross and Rachel (it's been about 20 years since that episode came out, at this point I don't think it's a spoiler) is one of the most passionate scenes I have ever seen. In fact, Ross and Rachel seasons 1 to 3 are some of the most passionate scenes I have ever seen, bar none (TV OR film). However the 'climax' of their break-up I believe is the most emotional, passionate scenes I have ever seen (I've said 'passionate' sp much that it's lost all meaning to ya, hasn't it? I'm done, I swear).
-languages (I KNOW there ain't a fandom for this): specifically Ancient Egyptian (hieroglyphics), Greek, Latin (definitely predominantly Greek right now- it's kinda fun to come across a name when reading about a myth or something, then breaking it into roots, then translating the parts. It's oddly satisfying.)
-the movie Almost Famous. I've now seen it twice (within the last week) in a row (and that's all I'm going to be able to see, since Netflix takes it off instant streaming...today), and I almost want to watch it a third time. The songs 'My Cherie Amour,' 'Tiny Dancer,' and 'Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters' are near-permanently stuck in my head. I also can't keep seeing *spoiler alert* the suicide attempt scene in my mind's eye. This obsession/ liking has created two offshoot obsessions:
-music from the early 1970s/ late 1960s, and
-Patrick Fugit, circa 2000 *tongue hits ground* Fangirl :faint: ...I believe the emoticons speak for themselves.

I love this movie. It comes from the era when movies were good (yet *just* before movies became 'oversaturated' in look- you don't believe me, just watch a few of the tween/ teen movies; I'll bet there's at least one thing (object, color scheme) that is bright orange or hot pink). Ironically it was made during the 'death rattle' of good movies (of you've seen the movie, you'll get the reference). Then reality TV came... once that sh** hit the market, everything changed permanently.
Not that there aren't still good movies being made today, or that that was the last of good movies entirely, it's just... the tone of all (American) film in general changed. My point is, I love it. I love the acting, the lines, the characters. I can't hate anyone. Not even the ones you thought you were supposed to hate/ dislike, or would end up hating/ disliking eventually like William's mom or Russel (dislike him maybe, but overall I like him, despite how cowardly he was up until the end). The funny moments were hilarious, the touching moments either made you smile or tear up, and the ending was completely satisfying. I love the plane scene (both of them), 'Tiny Dancer,' basically anything involving Penny or William (preferably in the same scene), or comedy. This movie really had some fantastic lines <3 : "Fuck it! I'm...I'm gay!!" "that *groupie*?! She was a band-aid! All she ever did was love your band! And you used her! You used her and threw her away!" (kinda like an actual band-aid... just sayin') "She almost died last night, when you were out partying with  Bob Dylan. You're always talking about 'the fans, the fans, the fans;' she was your BIGGEST fan! And if you can't see that, THAT'S your biggest problem! And I love her! I *love* her!" "It's all happening" (said in various contexts and tones), "What kind of beer?" "honey, you're too sweet for rock and roll" " 'too sweet?' Where do you get off?! I am dark and mysterious and pissed off! I am dangerous to any one of you!" "ask me again" (which actually wasn't an official line; Patrick Fugit actually *was* asking Kate Hudson to say the line again, and Cameron Crowe liked it so much that he kept it in!), and, of course: "I have to go home." *poof* "...you *are* home."
For those of you who have seen this gem, please respond, because I have some questions (and the people I would normally ask either haven;t seen it, wouldn't want to see it, wouldn't understand, or are just too busy to watch it).
okay:
Why are there at least three shots of Penny's feet during the suicide scene? (there are three: one where he's keeping her upright, and two when she's lying next to the tub) Are her feet significant? I don't remember them being significant during the rest of the movie.
While we're on the subject, what's with that weird look on William's face during that bathtub scene?? He's almost smiling at her...I know he's uncomfortable (his eyes look at her, then he glances to her feet to avoid watching what's happening), but why is he 'smiling' at the end??? And is it related to the fact that 'my cherie amour' is playing?
Also, please explain Penny's face when she's sitting on the plane, right before she turns and looks out the window. Did she just remeber what William 'confessed,' or it is hitting her that (for the first time in a while) she's alone? Or a combo of both?

Again, anyone who's actually seen the movie, please comment, because I would very much like to fangirl with you about it! (also any links to fanfics not listed on fanfiction.net would be very much appreciated; the fan following for this film is sad- only a handful of art pics about it on here, and only 17 fanfics on fanfiction about it- and 4 of them are in different languages (and about five of them aren't even for the movie Almost Famous). I've handpicked what I perceive to be the best Almost Famous fanart and added them to my favorites, if you want to see (if I haven't sorted them yet, they're near the beginning of the 'favorites' collection; if I have, they're in 'Movies/TV').

"it's all happening" ;)

I may have a problem.

I have over 15 different folders, all filled with pictures, and I still have over 100 pages of favorited stuff in my default folder!!
I wonder if anyone else has this issue...

This is a general question for the Deviantart populace. Is it considered common courtesy to send a 'thank you' message after someone likes or favorites your work? And is it courtesy to respond? I'm not sure. I love getting the thank yous, but i feel guilty for not responding (and there's only so many ways you can say 'you're welcome' before that's all you DO say). I really do try to not send the same message to people- I feel that it would seem more heartfelt and meaningful if I wrote different messages. I don't know. If it *is* customary to thank someone, then I think I have a few thank you messages to send out myself, lol!

And, while we're on the subject, for those of you who *have* sent me a note and haven't gotten a response, I'm sorry. :( I literally let my messages sit until my inbox showed around 180 messages. And if I want to write back sincerely, it takes a while :(
(I'm also a serial procrastinator to begin with, so that also doesn't help.)

And much thanks to the sweeties who are following me!

Ta-da!! The sill person is back! And this time she comes bearing her own creations! (I really should re-upload them soon- I swear they're better in person, I'm just a newbie to taking photos that showcase art!)
Hope it was worth the wait!

Sorry this is going to be a very short journal entry.
